Why did we start the project?

The Challenge

Lock N Lube’s Shopify store had inconsistent Product Detail Pages (PDPs) with multiple layouts, confusing customers and fragmenting the user experience. The website also suffered from slow performance, code redundancies, and outdated integrations that affected user satisfaction and conversion rates. Additionally, various bugs in cart functionality and product variant pricing created friction in the buying process.

  • Consolidate all product pages into a single, unified PDP for consistency and improved usability.

  • Optimize site performance by streamlining code and assets.

  • Fix functional bugs affecting cart behavior, variant pricing, and product display.

How VICI helped

Our Approach

VICI worked closely with Lock N Lube to strategically enhance the existing Shopify store without a full rebuild. Key technical and design interventions included:

Key Features Delivered:

  • Consolidated PDP: Unified multiple PDP layouts into one “Consolidated-PDP” applied across the catalog, ensuring consistent product presentation and review display.

  • Code Optimization: Reduced the main custom JavaScript file from over 1,500 lines to an optimized 870 lines by removing redundant functions, fixing bugs, and implementing debouncing for buttons to prevent multiple clicks.

  • Image Optimization: Compressed images to Shopify’s standards, eliminating the need for WebP and speeding up page loads.

  • Bug Fixes: Resolved cart duplication issues, fixed SKU and variant pricing updates, and corrected logic related to out-of-stock products and button behavior.

  • App Integration: Removed unnecessary third-party apps, replacing some functionalities with Liquid code and product metafields, and added the StoreLocator app to improve the customer’s ability to find retailers.
